Custom Made - With Filip Strömbäck
We joined business man and fashion icon Filip Strömbäck as he tailored new custom made suits from Oscar Jacobson. He wanted to make three suits that together comprises perfect clothes for work but also looks good on festive occasions.
What was your focus when you ordered your custom made suits?
- It’s important for me to be able to combine my garments in many different ways, and that I can wear them in my day-to-day life and at festive occasions.
Why did you make these three particular choices?
- I've made a few different choices that make these suits useful in any context I need them to be. For the two plain-coloured suits, I have chosen fabrics that can be used both in summer and winter and that have a little structure and discreet patterning that make them much easier to wear together with odd bottoms/tops. For all suits I have chosen unconstructed shoulders, and with a cut that is a little wider and more relaxed. It is therefore possible to wear a sweater under the blazer, even a waistcoat, but it still works perfectly with a well-ironed chalk-white shirt and a tight tie. I actually don't think you need any more suits than these three in your wardrobe.
What do you think is important when you pick a suit?
- The fit. I have super expensive suits in my wardrobe, made from incredible materials, that I never use. All because of the fit. If you make sure it feels free and natural across your shoulders and your waist, then wearing a suit is just as comfortable as wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
Are clothes important in your line of work?
- Absolutely. Clothes are important in everyone’s line of work! To be able to express yourself through your clothes is nothing to be taken for granted, and I continue to put a lot of effort in choosing what to wear each morning. What I express varies, but I’ve basically always chosen what I want to express. After all, I work at a new tech company, but with customers and issues that come from a more conservative and traditional environment. For me, it is important to show respect and consideration for my surroundings in all aspects, and I think that clothes are a simple tool for that.
What kind of work do you do?
- A few years ago I quit a long career as a headhunter and founded (together with a couple of colleagues from the industry) a tech company called Exparang. Today, we are leading figures in terms of increased efficiency and diversity in managerial recruitment. Our clients are progressive and fine companies that have understood the point of investing in technology as a way to improve their recruitment processes. We work mostly in Sweden and parts of the Nordics, but of course have global ambitions!
My job mostly revolves around helping our clients to succeed and to get more people to discover our awesome service. So far it’s only in my dreams that I have an entire staff around me, so of course I do a lot of IT support and HR work and an insufferable amount of administrative work…
What does a typical workday look like?
- You could roughly say that my working days consist of two main tasks:
1. Speak to CEOs and board of directors about their challenges when it comes to the flux of interesting and interested candidates for the most important postitions in their companies. There’s nothing better.
2. Sit in front of the computer and solve problems. I write incredibly fast, I have no problem delegating and I prefer to work fast and make mistakes. Anything so that I don’t have to sit in front of the computer for longer than necessary!
Do you always work from your office?
- Yes, most days I work from my office in Slottsbacken in Stockholm. Even though I enjoyed being at home during the pandemic, I’m very glad that I have an office through which I get to meet interesting people on a daily basis. It’s also easy to hit the city for a meeting or a lunch.
When do you think you’re going to wear these garments?
- I will live in them. My idea is that they’ll experience everything from dropping the kids off at kindergarten to Christmas!
