Abraham Moon & Sons – English heritage and enduring craftsmanship
Design, tailoring, fit, fabric and quality - these are the foundations of our work at Oscar Jacobson. We choose our partners with the utmost care, always seeking the highest standard at every stage of production.
Abraham Moon & Sons is one of England's oldest textile manufacturers and among the few remaining vertical wool mills in the United Kingdom -meaning that every step, from raw wool to finished fabric, is handled under one roof. This structure ensures short transport distances, resource efficiency and complete control over quality and traceability.
Founded in 1837 in the picturesque town of Guiseley, north of Leeds in Yorkshire, the company has been a leader in textile production for over 180 years. All stages of manufacturing still take place at the historic Netherfield Mill, where crucial processes such as dyeing, carding, spinning, washing, weaving and finishing are carried out. Abraham Moon's exceptional craftsmanship and focus on quality have earned them global recognition, supplying fabrics not only to Oscar Jacobson but also to renowned houses such as Ralph Lauren, Dior and Burberry.
Since 2023, the company's sustainability strategy has been led by a Technical Product Manager and a team of six sustainability ambassadors representing different parts of the mill. Energy and resource efficiency are central to their work. More than 520 solar panels, LED lighting and waste heat recovery have significantly reduced their carbon footprint. Water consumption has been reduced by 40%, and all process water is purified before being returned to nature. Fabric waste is recycled into new yarn blends.
The company holds certifications including the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and Woolmark, and participates in the Higg Index environmental assessment programme. The wool is tested annually to meet the highest standards of fibre quality, animal welfare and chemical management.
The sustainability strategy also extends to social responsibility, reflected in fair wages, leadership training on mental health awareness, equality and professional development. Through the CONNECT programme, employees are given the opportunity to engage in the company's sustainability initiatives through open dialogue.
