Our Scandinavian identity is founded on values and driven by storytelling. Together with the Swedish menswear magazine Scandinavian MAN, we've gathered eight personalities that innovate our times within music, movies, food, and interiors.
Meet K-phax, a young, up-and-coming rapper from Denmark.
Photography Dan Sjölund.
K-phax, real name Keith Birongo, released his debut single ’Oh My God’ in 2017 and got great reviews from magazines like Highsnobiety and Paper Magazine. K-phax’s music is often described as happy, melodic, breezy trap and he is often compared to big trap-stars of today, such as Famous Dex, Lil Yachty and Ski Mask The Slump God. In March 2019, K-phax released his debut EP ’Thunderstrm’. It’s compelling stuff – the initial steps in a long journey.
What do you do and what have you done?
I’m a local Danish rapper who has been working hard to promote the next wave in hip hop.
Is there any background story behind your artist name?
My original name was Keith Facts. One day I couldn’t login to my Soundcloud profile, so I created a new one and named it K-phax.
What’s going on for you right now?
I just came out with a new song and I’ll be releasing my debut EP ’Thunderstrm’ later this spring.
What does your background mean for you as a storyteller?
I get to know things from multiple perspectives. I’m a person who was not born here, but at the same time a person who considers himself Danish in a way. It’s complicated in many ways but some of the struggles I have been through with my identity have helped with my song writing.
How would you define yourself as an artist?
I’m a rapper who does a bunch of different music.
In what situation do you feel the most inspired and what inspires you?
I’m always inspired – by speeches, the weather and the different energies I see around me.
How important is your appearance foryour ability to convey your message?
It is everything. I need to look good, to feel good.
What values do you most value in others?
Kindness and ambition.
How important is your Scandinavian identity?
As a musician, I do not necessarily sing about it, however I use it in my business in a way.
What is your next step as an artist?
Become the greatest to ever do it.
